    Australia Day.
As this day (26 January) raises concerns with some of our countrymen, perhaps we should consider the viable alternative of 9 October. 9 October 1942 was the date of vice-regal assent to the Statute of Westminster Adoption Act. The date on which we the Australian people took control of our armed forces when deployed beyond our shores, could dictate who was to be Governor General, and in many other ways become independent. A date all Australians could celebrate. Early October has moderate temperatures in most parts of the nation; great for celebrations.
