Disputed Barricade

By: Fitzroy Maclean (432/35802)
Publisher: Jonathan Cape (From the John Laffin Library)

In Disputed Barricade Mr Maclean vividly described Titoís adventurous early life as a secret Communist agent, his epic resistance to the Germans, the bitter fratricidal strife of the civil war, his ruthless climb to power, and finally the circumstances culminating in his astonishing revolt against Moscow and the scarcely less significant developments which have followed since.

For the general reader as well as for the student of irregular warfare the dramatic account of the Partisan War will be of exceptional interest, while the authorís first hand knowledge of the Soviet Union and the special study which he has long made of Soviet policy have enabled him to view the whole sequence of events which he describes against their wider political and historical background. This width of vision is particularly necessary in attempting to assess the place in history of a man who at every stage of his turbulent life has been so actively involved in the turmoil and tumult of the century whose child he so essentially is, and who in political and historical importance so greatly overreaches the boundaries of his own small country.
